Collection is compilation of materials from various creators and collectors who were also members of the Friends of the River
or who were involved in activism to save the Stanislaus River from construction of the New Melones Dam. Includes various environmental
and river related newsletters and bulletins, including "Headwaters," the journal of the Friends of the River and "The Stanislaus
Campaign News"; reports and articles about the Stanislaus River (primarily photocopies); material on the Water Resources Conservation
and Efficiency Initiative (Proposition 13), the Stanislaus River Initiative (Proposition 17) and a briefing on H.R. 4223,
a bill to amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act; Friends of the River press releases, newsletters and action alerts; various
newspaper articles and clippings on the Stanislaus River, New Melones Dam, and activism by Friends of the River; writings
about the river by Martin Blake and Ron Pickup; and Sean Kay's collection of documents related to river and environmental
activism originally created by David Kay (primarily photocopies of original material). Visual material includes photographs
(both original prints and photographs printed out on paper) of the Stanislaus River, New Melones Dam and surrounding areas,
Friends of the River activities and activism; and slides taken by Martin Blake, Larry Orman, Bruce Raley, Mark Zaller, Doug
Linney, Ron Pickup, and Don Briggs. Includes two audiocassettes, two microcassettes, a 16mm film titled "Stanislaus River"
by Don Briggs and a 16mm film labeled "Slideshow."
